MICHAEL ALBERT / Modern Pop Art Experience: School Programs
Michael Albert, an American pop artist renowned for his “Cerealism” collages crafted from cereal boxes and other consumer packaging, offers a distinctive art enrichment program called the “Modern Pop Art Experience” to schools across the United States. Since 2000 he has brought this program to hundreds of schools all over the USA (48 state so far!), Canada & Europe including: Pre-Schools, Elementary Schools, Intermediate, Middle & High Schools, Colleges & Universities and Adult, Special Needs & Continuing Education Centers.
This program typically includes:
- Artist Talk and Presentation: Either by grades or school wide assembly, Albert shares insights into his artistic journey, influences, and the evolution of his collage techniques, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of his work and the broader pop art movement. He typically uses a slide show to illustrate his talk and takes questions when appropriate.
- Hands-On Collage Workshop: Students engage in creating their own collages using recycled materials, particularly cereal boxes, fostering creativity and environmental awareness. This interactive component allows participants to explore the artistic process firsthand. These workshops take place in the art room, media center or in a larger setting (cafeteria or gym) where full grades or entire schools can make art together.
- Exhibition of Artworks: Albert provides a set of his posters comprising a retrospective of his work which the school can keep & use as they see fit. Schools may showcase a selection of Albert’s original artworks in an exhibition which the entire school can experience. Opening events are possible where parents & families are invited to participate and see what all the excitement is about. This offers the students an opportunity to experience his pieces on a larger scale & up close and gain inspiration for their own creations.
- Group Projects: Albert can create a collaborative collage work with a select group of students on a variety of themes which can remain as a legacy piece for the school to display. These usually require a full day or multiple days to complete depending on the project.
- Special Evening or After School Sessions available which parents, siblings & families can participate.
Fees: School Programs can be half day, full day, or multiple day residencies. Rates depend on the specific plan for the visit, travel distance & etc.
Albert’s programs are designed to be inclusive, catering to students of all ages, and often emphasize themes of self-directed learning, recycling and sustainability through art.
By bringing the Modern Pop Art Experience to schools, Michael Albert not only educates students about pop art but also encourages hands-on creativity, making art accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
